Early referral and commencement of hand therapy is encouraged to ensure optimal results. Early intervention following hand injury will allow the fitting of an appropriate splint to protect healing structures,  reduction of swelling, timely commencement of exercises to prevent stiffness and education regarding precautions and appropriate use of the injured hand.

  • Private patients – No referral required.  Private patients with private health extras cover for Occupational Therapy are eligible for a rebate from their health fund.  There will be some out of pocket expenses for the Hand Therapy consultation as well as any consumables, such as splints and dressings.
  • Workcover patients – Workcover patients require a current Workcover medical certificate.
  • DVA patients – A GP referral (D904) is needed.  DVA will cover all costs for Gold card holders and specific conditions for White card holders.
  • Medicare – Patients whose hand condition is related to a chronic medical condition may be eligible for a Medicare rebate under the Enhanced Primary Care Scheme – A GP referral and care plan is needed.  Our practice charges a small gap payment for EPC patients.
